How to Prepare the Artwork for Your Standard Business Cards

Preparing artwork for standard business cards involves several important steps to ensure that the final printed cards look professional and meet your expectations. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

• Choose the Right Dimensions:
  Standard business cards typically have dimensions of 3.5 x 2 inches (8.9 x 5.1 cm). Make sure your artwork matches these dimensions.
• Set Up Bleed and Trim Marks:
  Bleed is the extra area around your design that gets trimmed off after printing. Add a bleed of at least 0.125 inches (3.2 mm) to all sides. This means your document size should be 3.75 x 2.25 inches (9.5 x 5.7 cm).
• Use High-Resolution Images:
  Ensure all images are at least 300 DPI (dots per inch) to ensure high-quality printing.
• Choose the Right Color Mode:
  Use CMYK color mode rather than RGB. This is the color mode used for printing.
• Embed Fonts or Convert to Outlines:
  If you’re using custom fonts, either embed them in your file or convert the text to outlines to ensure they display correctly on any computer.
• Maintain Safe Zone:
  Keep all important information (like text and logos) within a safe zone of 0.125 inches (3.2 mm) from the edge of the card. This ensures that no essential elements get cut off during printing.
• Design with the Final Orientation in Mind:
  Make sure your design is oriented correctly. Most business cards are in portrait orientation, but if you have a specific need for landscape, ensure your design reflects this.
• Proofread and Check for Errors:
  Double-check all text for spelling and grammar errors. It’s also a good idea to have someone else review it for you.
• Order by submitting Artwork/Design for Printing:
  Send your finalized artwork/design to your chosen printing service. We will review it to ensure it meets their specifications before proceeding with printing.
• Turn over time:
  It will take 7 business days to deliver the printed card.
